In Washington Park, you live outside as much as in. The morning loop around Smith Lake. The gardens in full color by late June. Light that pours across the grass and follows you home down tree lined streets. This residence, just steps from the park, was built to live the same way, open, easy, full of light. The difference is that here, the light listens.
The family came to QAV with a simple wish and a high bar: a home as beautiful and effortless as the park outside their windows. We were brought in early, alongside their architect and designer, so the technology could be drawn into the home from the first set of plans, not an afterthought at the end.
The heart of the home is a two story wall of windows. Stunning, and a great deal of Colorado sun to tame. So we tamed it with craft. Shades spanning more than fifteen feet wide and two stories tall, glide silently to hold the perfect light at any hour. Inside, the lighting treats the art like art and sets a scene for every moment, a quiet dinner, a full house, a slow Sunday. You never reach for a switch. The home already knows.
Even the televisions disappear into the design. Samsung Frame TVs finished in custom alloy gold frames, so when they are off they read as artwork on the wall.
The music is everywhere and nowhere. Small, high output and fully invisible speakers are hidden in the architecture, filling the rooms with sound and leaving nothing to see in the ceilings or walls. In the dining room, the only thing you notice is the conversation.
Because this is Wash Park, the home does not stop at the back door. An outdoor television, landscape audio, and warm lighting carry the evening into the yard, so a summer night outside feels as finished as any room inside. You live outside as much as in. The home was designed for exactly that.
All of it simple to use: light, shades, sound, climate, security, the indoors and the out. One touch sets the scene. Or the home sets it on its own, because it already learned the rhythm of the family who lives there.
