Fox Hill, the country-estate community near Franktown where traditions grow, is home to some of Colorado's most thoughtful custom builds. This one, designed by Godden Sudik Architects and built by Camerata Custom Homes, became something rarer still: a home designed around light. Known as Project Solace, it has earned QAV recognition across the industry's award and press coverage, and it is easy to see why. QAV was brought in early and trusted to lead the lighting design for the entire residence, the design, the fixtures, and the controls.
Light as Architecture
QAV treated light the way an architect treats space. Layer by layer, room by room, the home was lit for depth, warmth, and mood rather than mere brightness. Dim-to-warm fixtures glow softer as they dim, like candlelight. Tiny, precise apertures keep the ceilings clean and the sources hidden. Custom fixtures built from DMF Lighting components, chosen piece by piece, the housing, the trim, and the light engine, mean every fitting is exactly right and easy to upgrade later. And a set of one-touch scenes on the Crestron platform, from a bright, energizing morning to a soft evening glow, lets the whole home change character in an instant. QAV even designed the light on paper first, working from detailed lighting sketches before a single fixture went in.
Speakers Matched to the Light
Here is the detail that stops people. QAV placed audio throughout the home using small-aperture speakers sized to match the apertures of the recessed lights. Look up, and the ceiling reads as one clean, deliberate rhythm, so you cannot tell the light from the speaker. Hidden subwoofers add the depth you feel but never see. Sound and light, literally aligned.
Controls Worth Touching
Even the switches are beautiful. QAV specified solid metal Basalte keypads, cool to the touch and jewel-like on the wall, with not a plastic switch in the house. Control this refined becomes part of the architecture rather than a break in it.
Theaters, Framed Like Art
The living-space theaters carry the same philosophy. Their televisions wear handcrafted Leon Edge media frames, so a screen reads as a framed work of art until the moment the movie starts.
The Rest of the Story
Around all of it, QAV wove the essentials of a home this caliber: motorized window treatments to tame the vaulted walls of glass, Wi-Fi that reaches every room, and audio that carries out into the outdoor living spaces for Colorado evenings under the stars.
Great lighting is invisible until you notice how a room makes you feel. That is the art QAV practices, and in this Fox Hill home it reached a level worth celebrating.
